Atlético Nacional announced on Monday that Brazilian William Amaral will not continue as head coach of the first team, a position that will be assumed by Colombian John Jairo Bodmer until the end of the current season. Bodmer was an assistant coach for the Costa Rican national team in Qatar 2022.

"Atlético Nacional announces that Professor William Amaral will not continue as head coach of our men's professional team. Professor John Jairo Bodmer will assume this position starting today until the end of the current season," the Colombian club said in a statement.

The green institution specified that both Amaral and his assistant, Brazilian Caio Mello, "will continue working until today" at Nacional, where they arrived in October 2022 as part of Paulo Autuori's coaching staff, who left the bench in July 2023 for personal reasons.

In the statement, the Medellín-based club detailed that Bodmer "was part of the Costa Rican national team at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the 2023 Gold Cup as a member of the coaching staff".

"In addition, he has already coached in the Colombian Professional Football League in the first and second divisions," added the information.

It also noted that the new coach, who was an assistant to Colombian Luis Fernando Suárez with the Costa Rican national team, "has experience with internationally renowned players, as well as promising players, which fits perfectly with the institutional sports idea".

"I am extremely happy to be in this institution, today with this wonderful opportunity. The expectations are incredibly high. I know what Atlético Nacional means and I am convinced that I am here to achieve great things with the institution," said Bodmer, who recently took charge of the U20 team.
