Tolima Sports smiled on Matchday 13 of the Colombian Finalización, defeating Envigado 2-0 in the debut of their coach David González, thanks to a spectacular performance by goalkeeper Neto Volpi.
After the interim period of Arastey, Pijao hired the ex-Medellín as their coach. Although it seemed that Alexander Guimaraes was going to be the new strategist, David González ended up taking charge of the first team, which has been performing irregularly in the local tournament.
His debut was successful. He defeated Envigado in Ibagué 2-0 with goals from Castro and Herazo, reaching 16 points and sitting just one point behind the eighth position, currently held by Atlético Junior.
Vinotinto y Oro had Neto Volpi, who was an undisputed figure with vital interventions, including saving a penalty in the final moments of the match.
His first save came in the eighth minute. He stopped a shot from outside the box and remained alert to maintain the clean sheet. In the 62nd minute, he was called into action again, this time making a one-handed save as the ball was heading towards his left corner.
When the match was coming to an end with Tolima leading 2-0, the referee awarded a penalty to Envigado with the help of VAR. Volpi faced off against Parra Marin in the battle of the goalkeepers and saved the shot from the visiting goalkeeper, diving towards his left side, an intervention that ultimately made him the standout player in González's debut.
With this result, Pijao climbed to 12th position with 16 points and still has one game to play to reach the 13 games that the majority of FPC teams have played. With a new coach and renewed hopes, Tolima dreams of getting back into the top eight to qualify for the playoffs. On the other hand, Envigado is in last place with only eight points.
