Junior is facing a challenge in looking for new signings. Despite the high demand for players, costs quickly rise once negotiations begin. Therefore, instead of looking for famous or talented footballers, the priority would be to explore options within the country and select available elements. In this search, the name of Santiago Gomez appeared, who would stand out as the chosen candidate, even catching the attention of the Barranquilla strategist Hernan Dario Gomez.
The 'Tiburón' transfer window is causing astonishment among fans and observers. With the urgency to improve their performance in the second half of the year, the 'Rojiblancos' desperately need a number 9 forward. In this sense, and amidst the rumors, 'Bolillo' has Santiago Gomez as an option. But who is this mentioned athlete?
Santiago Gomez never played in the first division, but has a record of goals
Santiago Gomez, a 27-year-old forward, is already in Colombian professional football, playing in the Second Division. He was signed by Real Cartagena for the current season. He arrived after a period of professional inactivity and having played only for a couple of promotion teams in his home country. So far, he has not had the opportunity to play in the first or top division.
Recently, he managed to score two goals against Deportes Quindio. The striker is among the most desired players in the Betplay Dimayor 2023 Tournament. He has scored a total of 10 goals in that competition, establishing himself as the Argentine top scorer in the history of the 'Auriverde' team.
He has 10 goals in the tournament and one in the Copa BetPlay. In just six months, he managed to surpass the record that Emmanuel Molina had held since his arrival at Cartagena in 2011, with eight goals. After 12 years, someone capable of breaking that historical record has finally arrived, according to the RealCartagena Datos portal.
Gomez has become a pleasant surprise for the Real Cartagena team. He has scored against Patriotas de Boyaca twice, Valledupar, Atletico FC, Cortulua FC, Llaneros FC, Leones FC, and Deportes Quindio three times. Additionally, he has scored in the Copa Betplay against Cortulua. So far, he has played 1715 minutes in 21 games with the Cartageneros.
How did Santiago Gomez come to be in the eyes of Junior?
"I have a good relationship with Dani (son of coach Hernan Dario Gomez). In the last few games, I knew that Junior was following me. When you are on the field, you strive to represent the institution in the best possible way. Thank God, I did things well and I hope everything ends in the best possible way," explained Santiago Gomez.
"Regarding my situation, everything is resolved, there is no problem in that sense. It only remains to wait for the negotiations between the clubs to be finalized. Personally, I considered Junior de Barranquilla as my first option," he added.
