Although at first it seemed to have found the perfect place to revive his football career, James Rodríguez did not end up fitting in at Olympiacos and this Thursday, less than two months before the end of the Greek Super League, announced his departure from the club. Through a message posted on his social media, the Colombian midfielder said goodbye to the fans of the Greek institution and thanked them for the support they gave him during his stay.
The 31-year-old player arrived at the 'rojiblancos' after an unsuccessful spell at Al Rayyan in the Qatar Stars League and everything seemed to indicate that it was the right step to recover that version that once made him considered one of the best creative midfielders in South America. However, injuries and a sports project devoid of clear objectives led him to seek new paths thinking about the next season.
“I would like to thank everyone for all the time we have spent together, although we are going separate ways, I feel that I will always be a member and well received in the Olympiacos family and the great port of Piraeus. I wish Olympiacos all the best and much success in the future,” the midfielder posted on his Instagram account.

In total, James played 23 matches with Olympiacos: he scored five goals and provided six assists. He mostly played as an attacking midfielder, was in charge of set pieces, and had an almost perfect month in October that led to him being considered the best player of the month in the Greek Super League.
“Olympiacos and James Rodríguez have decided to terminate his contract. James will always be part of our club and a member of the 'rojiblanca' family. We want to thank him for his service and wish him much success in the future,” Olympiacos published.
James and his next destination
At the moment, there are no rumors of any possible destination for James Rodríguez, as this departure from Greece came unexpectedly. However, it is most likely that he will soon start receiving offers. Before returning to Europe, he had already received proposals from Brazilian football and it could be an ideal destination for a player who has just turned 30 and still has a lot to give.
