A note to put in a frame. Rafael Santos Borré is one of the most important players of the Colombian national team and this Tuesday it has been shown again, after a spectacular goal that he scored in the win over Japan at Yodoko Sakura Stadium in Osaka, in the framework of the FIFA 2023 match.
Colombia and Japan measured their strength after facing Uruguay and South Korea last Friday, respectively, in matches that ended in draws in both cases, and with their sights set on the qualifying phase for the next World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico for 2026.
Colombia was the team that pressed the most in the decisive phase and managed to take the lead, thanks to an acrobatic goal from Santos Borré, a player from Frankfurt, Germany, who took advantage of an aerial ball rejected by Schmidt. As expected, the goal of the Frankfurt forward is now being talked about on social media.
Ayase Ueda could have equalized the match again with a header if it weren't for two good interventions by Vargas. Lorenzo sought more oxygen and bite to seal the game by bringing in Falcao for Santos Borré (min.73), as well as Diego Valoyes for Arias (min.72).
Japan tried in the final stretch with a very active Kubo, but couldn't overcome the Colombian defense, very firm in positioning and quick to stop the mobility of the Japanese. Falcao even had the 3-1 but his weak header didn't put Schmidt in too much trouble.
