The Colombian team could not leave Peru after the closure of the Arequipa airport. In response, the authorities of their country sent a humanitarian flight to the 'White City' to bring the entire team back.

Due to the social mobilizations in Arequipa, the Alfredo Rodríguez Ballón International Airport decided to suspend commercial flights, which ended up affecting Deportivo Pasto. The Colombian team was present at the "Tarde Rojinegra" against Melgar on January 15th and, since then, they haven't been able to leave Arequipa due to this issue. That's why the 'Tricolor' decided to ask for help from the Colombian Government in order to return to their country on a charter flight, which was sent by the Colombian Armed Forces.

The entire team requested help from the Colombian authorities and their country's President, Gustavo Petro, who requested permission for a Colombian Air Force plane to land in the 'White City' to transport the sports club back, which had been in Peru for almost seven days.

"On behalf of the team, I want to thank the Colombian Air Force, who has brought us back to our homeland once again. We want to thank them because we are back with our families, back to our work, and back in our country," said coach José Flabio Torres minutes after returning to his country.

Likewise, the Colombian Air Force issued a statement, confirming that the C-40 aircraft departed on January 25th at 2:13 pm from CATAM and, on the return trip, with the sports team on board, landed at 11:36 pm at the Bonilla Aragón International Airport serving the city of Cali, Valle del Cauca.

It is worth mentioning that Deportivo Pasto arrived in Cali on Wednesday night. Likewise, it is expected that in the next few hours the delegation will return to their headquarters in Pasto, with the aim of resuming their work prior to their debut in the BetPlay 2023 League.

Deportivo Pasto prepares for its debut

Due to the problems they experienced in Peru, Deportivo Pasto was forced to postpone the match against Alianza Petrolera for the second round of the Apertura 2023 Tournament, which was scheduled to take place this weekend.

Therefore, the 'Volcánico' team will prepare from this Friday for their debut in the Colombian championship. Their rival will be none other than América de Cali, with whom they will face on Saturday, February 4th, within the framework of the third round of the BetPlay 2023 League.
