James Rodríguez's stay in Greece could extend longer than initially thought, as Olympiacos' management intends to renew his contract as soon as possible. Remember that in September, the midfielder left Al-Rayyan in Qatar, where he couldn't consolidate, and signed a one-season contract with the club in El Pireo.

Initially, the Greek institution only secured the Colombian for one year due to doubts about his performance. However, any questions have been cleared and the leaders are eager to advance the negotiations to extend the agreement, according to La Luz newspaper.

According to the aforementioned source, Olympiacos wants to have James Rodríguez on its squad for at least one more season and does not want to wait until the transfer market for formalization. The club's urgency is related to FIFA's rule: the player will be able to negotiate with any team six months before his contract ends.

In that sense, the former Real Madrid player will be open to listening to options in the upcoming winter transfer window (early 2023). Taking into account that the end of the Qatar 2022 World Cup will be very close, there are expected to be many transfers in the major European leagues.

Due to that detail, Olympiacos will make every possible effort to secure James' stay within the squad under coach Míchel González. It should be mentioned that in the current season of the Greek Super League, the midfielder has two assists and two goals in eight appearances.

For now, Rodríguez is working with the Colombian national team under the orders of coach Néstor Lorenzo, as they will play a friendly match against Paraguay at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale (Saturday, November 19, from 8:00 p.m.).
