Twice as lucky. Peruvian swimmer Alexia Sotomayor won her second gold medal at the South American Youth Aquatic Sports Championship Peru Bicentennial 2021, which is taking place at the National Sports Village Aquatic Center.
After winning her first gold medal in the 100-meter backstroke in this tournament, Alexia Sotomayor achieved another triumph. This time in the 200-meter backstroke event, with a time of 2:17.88, setting another record in the Youth South American Championship.
The second place went to the Argentine, Candela Raviola, and the third place went to the Colombian, Juliana Romero.
"Next, I have the Junior Pan American Championships in Cali, for which I have been preparing very hard, with a lot of effort and perseverance to fight for a good result," said Sotomayor.
Our brilliant 15-year-old athlete also thanked the Legacy Project for providing first-class facilities for high-performance sports.
"I appreciate the support provided by the Legacy Project, for giving us the facilities to compete in Olympic-level venues, which were left behind by the Pan American Games, which all Peruvians can enjoy and use," mentioned Alexia.
More gold for Peru
Peru has so far won a total of four gold medals at the South American Youth Aquatic Sports Championship Peru Bicentennial 2021.
Our first and second gold medal was won by Ana Ricci in 1-meter and 3-meter diving, respectively.
In other results, Peru finished fourth in the mixed 4x100-meter relay, behind Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia, respectively.
