Beyond being a visitor in a complicated venue like the Ramón 'Tahuichi' Aguilera Stadium in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Junior never felt inferior and played on an equal footing with Oriente Petrolero on Thursday night, for the third matchday of Group H in the Copa Sudamericana.
After several attempts to breach the opponent's defense, the 'Tiburón' managed to take the lead thanks to Omar Albornoz's goal. The Colombian created space in the area and fired a left-footed shot. However, before the ball crossed the goal line, it slightly deflected off a player.
The 26-year-old player scored his second goal of the year for Junior against the Bolivian team. Albornoz's previous victim was Deportes Tolima in a match of the Colombian league.
Junior vs. Oriente Petrolero: what's next for the teams
The Colombian team aims to take the three points in Bolivia and climb to the top, reaffirming its candidacy for first place in the group, which would secure a spot in the next round of the Copa Sudamericana.
In the next match of the international tournament, the 'Tiburón' will face Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro. This duel is scheduled for May Wednesday. However, on the weekend, Juan Cruz Real's squad will face Envigado in the local league.
On the other hand, Oriente Petrolero, still without points in the Sudamericana, will play against Atlético Palmaflor next Sunday, while their next challenge in the Copa will be on Thursday, May 6, when they visit Unión de Santa Fe.
