The former member of the Albiceleste was found to have a banned substance in November 2022.

Alejandro 'Papu' Gómez has been suspended for doping and will be two years out of the field as punishment, as reported by the Spanish online newspaper Relevo.

According to the aforementioned source, the Argentine player tested positive in an anti-doping control when he was still playing for Sevilla in Spain, in November 2022, after his participation with the 'Albiceleste' in the last World Cup.

The test on the footballer was carried out during an unexpected visit to the Sevilla's training sessions. According to statements by the attacker, informed Relevo, "a few days before, he had a bad night which led him to take a syrup from one of his children without consulting the club's doctors beforehand."

By testing positive for an adverse analytical result and being suspended, 'Papu' Gómez could lose the title of World Champion with the 'Albiceleste' and the UEFA Europa League champion with Sevilla. However, according to the World Anti-Doping Code, neither the national team nor the club would be at risk of losing what they achieved on the field.
