A follower named Carolina Galvez wrote on her social media about the former player from Cienciano and Universitario de Deportes. "How can Latina have this man as a host of a program who doesn't have good diction and hasn't learned that; when you represent another country, you educate yourself and speak like the country that gives you the opportunity," she wrote.

In response, the popular 'Checho' had a kind reply. He wrote, "I wake up at 5 am to work, I pay my taxes like everyone else, my wife, children, and granddaughter are Peruvian, I can't lose the Cordoba accent and I don't want to, because it reminds me of where I come from and where I belong. I don't know what I did to this lady, but nobody can make me stop LOVING what I do," wrote the 50-year-old former player.

Since 2019, the Latina TV channel decided to hire the former football player as a sports commentator with a view to the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Now he works as a host in the sports section of the news program.
