Gonzalo Martínez, better known as 'Pity', returned to River Plate, with whom he was one of the heroes of the 2018 Copa Libertadores final won against their arch-rival Boca Juniors.
"Welcome Pity Martínez," announced the 'Millionaires' club on their social media account X, formerly known as Twitter, where they posted a photo of the player wearing the red and white jersey with a couple of red and white hearts.
The club's president, Jorge Brito, also used this channel to welcome the 30-year-old player, who has been recovering from a serious injury suffered in February, a tear in the external collateral ligament of his right knee.

At the last hour on Wednesday, the footballer went to the club's facilities in Núñez for a medical examination and to sign the contract with the entity he joined in 2015, coming from Huracán, and with whom he won two Libertadores (2015 and 2018) and two Recopa Sudamericanas, as well as local tournaments under the direction of Marcelo Gallardo, River's most successful coach in history.
In the famous 2018 final, played against their eternal rival Boca Juniors, he scored the third goal (3-1) in the second leg played in Madrid, after a penalty goal against Brazilian side Gremio gave the 'Millionaires' the qualification to that decisive stage.
Precisely, the club has recalled his presence in that final, the only one in the history of the Libertadores played outside the American continent, in Madrid, by publishing a video of the celebrations along with the welcome message on social media. The time of the first publication, 9:12, another nod to the memorable date: December 9, 2018.
Martínez signed with Atlanta United, from the American league (MLS), in 2019, and in the 2020-2021 season with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, where he shared the bench with Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo.
