Rubén Darío Insúa, coach of San Lorenzo, spoke this Thursday on the program No Veo La Hora (D Sports Radio), where he analyzed the club's current situation after being eliminated from the CONMEBOL Sudamericana by San Pablo, the aspirations for the Copa de La Liga that is starting, the transfer market of El Ciclón, and the possible comeback of Ortigoza to football.
When asked about the team's objectives for the rest of the season, "El Gallego" did not avoid the question and said that his players must fight for a title: "I've always said it, the goal is to fight for a title, we're going to continue aspiring to that. We hope to keep improving from the previous semester," he said, and gave a positive assessment of the work done: "We're very happy because we were able to improve from the previous semester. We finished among the top three and fought on the international stage."
However, he regretted the series against San Pablo that ended the continental illusion: "I think in both matches the team performed up to the circumstances and we were beaten by a team with hierarchy, accustomed to fighting for important things."
Finally, he talked about what the club is looking for in this transfer market, stating that the budget difference with other teams 'is noticeable' and requested the continuity of Augusto Batalla: "It's a priority objective, when you find a goalkeeper of that caliber you shouldn't let him go. The club will have to make an effort and buy the player's transfer at the end of the year (who currently belongs to River)."
When asked about reinforcements, El Gallego stated that a center-back is a priority for San Lorenzo and regretted that the transfer of Jonathan Galván couldn't be done: "He was a name we wanted and ended up closing with Argentinos. We've been looking for a center-back for 40 days, on Sunday I was at a cafe in Caballito, I saw Galván and I approached him to ask about his future. We had a conversation, he had expectations of playing here but the owner of the transfer is Argentinos and it couldn't be done," he explained, although he assured that they have "two or three options for that position."
Lastly, he talked about the situation of Néstor Ortigoza, who had revealed a few days ago that Insúa himself wanted him to come out of retirement to reinforce the squad, although he initially agreed and then backed out: "He always comes to the concentration and I told him to come back, he is one of the four or five best players I have coached in my career. It was a pleasure to have him at San Lorenzo."
