Universitario goalkeeper José Carvallo responded to criticism about his actions during the intense fight that took place after the match against Gimnasia from Argentina at the Monumental stadium, in which the 'cremas' came out victorious with a score of 1 - 0.
"First, I want to apologize to the people and fans who were at the stadium, for my bad reaction. I see that much of the press attacks me without knowing how the events unfolded," he began his message posted on his Instagram account, accompanied by photos of the moment of the aggressions.
Carvallo assured that the incident started because the Gimnasia players initiated the attacks at the end of the game and added that he tried to calm the situation at all times. However, when he saw them assaulting a member of the equipment staff, he reacted.
"I see that they are attacking our equipment staff on the floor with punches and kicks between two players, that's when I react after seeing the passivity of the police. I believe that any person who witnesses an injustice against someone they care about would defend them without hesitation," he wrote.
He assured that he is not a person who seeks violence, but also said that he reacted in defense of someone who was being violated. "I am calm and with a clear conscience," he concluded.
