In the last 25 years, Alianza Lima has signed foreign coaches with international achievements such as Rubén Darío Insúa, Miguel Ángel Russo, among others. However, these mentioned coaches were unable to complete the season and were dismissed due to the poor results of their previous clubs.

Precisely, Insúa arrived at Alianza Lima in 2005 with the goal of achieving the three-peat after winning the Copa Sudamericana with San Lorenzo in 2002. However, the Argentine coach lasted only four months and left the blanquiazul club after suffering a tough 4-1 defeat against Sport Áncash.
Sixteen years later, in 2021, Insúa returned to Peruvian football to coach Deportivo Binacional. But, the 'Powerful of the South' terminated his contract after three matches.

Currently, the 'Gallego' is the leader of the Argentine Professional League 2023 with San Lorenzo. The team has played seven matches in the league with a record of five victories, one draw, and one defeat. They are in first place with 16 points.
"I wouldn't dare to say that we are candidates. I think that in Argentine football, in a tournament of these characteristics where there are 28 teams, there are eight or ten that I imagine must have that type of aspirations. We are among them. Seven rounds have passed and the road is very long, this is just the beginning," said Insúa to ESPN.
