José Néstor Pékerman has decided to put an end to his work as the coach of Venezuela's national team. They communicated their decision to FVF through a letter.

José Néstor Pékerman was announced as the new coach of the Venezuelan National Team in late 2021, with the ambition of building a solid project that would lead the 'Vinotinto' to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. However, that plan -for the moment- will not be carried out. At least not with the Argentine in the dugout: this Tuesday his departure would have been confirmed.

Through a letter, the experienced strategist and his coaching staff communicated their decision to the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF), which will publicly announce the decision of the former coach of the Argentina team and of Argentina in the coming hours.

The reason? According to the Argentine press, alleged non-compliance by the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) with commitments assumed, which both the coach and his team considered essential when they bet on Venezuela.

In addition, improvements to premises and facilities would not have been fulfilled either. It is even said that there is an accumulation of debts with the staff and collaborators, which made it difficult for José, a lover of long-term projects, to decide to step aside more than a year after starting his journey.

Waiting for an official statement from Venezuela, Pékerman leaves the position of coach after a year and three months in charge, as he was appointed in November 2021 as a substitute for José Peseiro, this being his first experience after leaving the Colombian National Team in 2018.

During his time in Venezuela, he directed 10 matches -six of them friendly- and recorded five victories, one draw, and four defeats. Initially, the goal of his project was the long-awaited qualification for the United States, Mexico, and Canada 2026 World Cup.
