Hours before the match between Argentina and France, which ultimately gave the Albiceleste the championship title in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, sports journalism in the South American country suffered the loss of the young commentator Sebastián Pordomingo, who was covering the scaloneta's participation in the tournament for a local radio. Several Argentine media outlets lamented the death of the narrator, whose age at the time of his death was only 38 years old.
The news was only announced shortly after the duel that crowned Lionel Messi and company. Important newspapers such as Clarín, Olé, and La Nación reported that the death of the sports journalist occurred in the morning hours for undisclosed reasons.
"My brother was a passionate sports journalist, a football commentator, and today (Sunday) December 18, he left us at only 38 years old. Nobody in our family, nor his girlfriend, can comprehend the moment we are going through. We appreciate all the messages that are coming in through various media. They show us what we already knew about how good of a person and professional Seba was," wrote Nacho Pordomingo, the brother of the deceased, from his official account.

Sebastián, originally from La Pampa, had moved to Buenos Aires to fulfill his dream of being a football commentator. He was also a professor of sports journalism at the Universidad Abierta Interamericana and worked at Radio La Red, from where he had narrated some matches of the World Cup.
Pordomingo's case became the third known case of a journalist who died during the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Previously, the American Grant Wahl and the Qatari Khalid Al Misslam had passed away, although the latter two died in the Asian nation, while the Argentine died in his native country.
