Argentina and the Netherlands will play an exciting match in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The most recent encounter between both teams took place in the semifinals of the 2014 Brazil World Cup when Argentina eliminated the Dutch team, also led by Louis van Gaal, through a penalty shootout.
The coach of the Dutch team still remembers that bitter memory. Therefore, in a press conference, he stated that there are scores to settle with the South American team and that this time he will seek a different outcome. "In the semifinal we played against Argentina in 2014, we didn't touch the ball and lost on penalties. Now we want our revenge," he said.
"I don't like to remember it because I thought we would win. I would like to convince the people at home to come and watch the game and support us. That way we will get a lot of support," added the coach, who has been undefeated (19 matches) since he took charge of the Netherlands again in 2021.
On the other hand, Louis van Gaal referred to the presence of Lionel Messi in the match. Although, he revealed the strategy he plans to use to stop the Argentine player, who has scored three goals in the 2022 World Cup.
"Indeed, he is the most dangerous player, the one who creates the most chances and creates them himself, but on the other hand, he doesn't play much when the opponent has possession of the ball. There are our possibilities," added the Dutch coach.
