This Wednesday Argentina defeated Poland 2-0 in the final group stage match of the Qatar 2022 World Cup and, after the match, Wojciech Szczęsny, the Polish goalkeeper, revealed that he had a bet with Lionel Messi.
As you may remember, around the 39th minute, there was a controversial play against Messi that the referee reviewed with VAR and then determined it to be a penalty for Argentina. In regards to this, the Polish goalkeeper said: "I bet Messi 100 euros that the referee wouldn't give a penalty, so I lost a bet with Messi."
In the same line, Szczęsny pointed out: "I don't know if it's allowed, maybe I'll be sanctioned. I'm not going to pay him, he already has enough money." In that penalty, the goalkeeper himself saved the score for Poland as he blocked Lionel Messi's shot.
However, in the second half, in the 46th and 67th minutes, Alexis Mac Allister and Julián Álvarez were responsible for giving Argentina the victory and, with the 2-0 lead, the team led by Lionel Scaloni finished first in Group C with 6 points. The team that finished second was Poland with 4 units.
Argentina vs. Australia:
After qualifying as the first-place finisher in Group A, the team led by Lionel Scaloni will face Australia, the team that finished second in Group D, this Saturday, December 3 at 2:00 pm (Peruvian time) at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.
