Matías Suárez scored the only goal of River Plate vs. Rosario Central and celebrated with Marcelo Gallardo.
A goal from River Plate came in the 88th minute. Suárez headed the ball from the center of the area with an assist from Elías Gómez.
After scoring, although there was no great euphoria because they were still losing, the River Plate player went straight to hug coach Gallardo who will leave the club after eight years.
Ovation for Gallardo
More than 70,000 River Plate fans made the Monumental Stadium shake as they loudly chanted "Muñeeeeco", in a farewell full of emotion for Marcelo Gallardo, who as the team's coach won 14 titles in eight years.
The match against Rosario Central on Sunday night, for the penultimate round of the Argentine League, became a tribute party to Gallardo, with a touch of sadness for the farewell.
Aside from that, a faint flame had been ignited by Boca's defeat to Newell's, with River Plate four points away, in a title race that also includes Racing and Atlético Tucumán.
But with flags, balloons, and fireworks, the crowd sang and jumped passionately to pay tribute to a 46-year-old idol they nicknamed Napoleón: a brilliant strategist of short stature.
The legend of a sign hanging from the stands was emblematic: "Thanks Muñe. You are eternal like what happened in Madrid."
