The Colombian footballer Edwin Cardona, 29, who plays for the Argentinean Racing Club, registered 1.81 grams of alcohol in his blood in a traffic control, more than three times the allowed level for a private driver, reported a police report on Thursday.

The vehicle control was carried out in the early hours of Tuesday in the neighborhood of Puerto Madero, which borders the financial center of the Argentine capital, reported the Traffic Police of the City.

After exceeding the limit of 0.5 grams/liter allowed for driving in Buenos Aires, the police took away his vehicle and retained his driving license, and stated that he will have to take a course to regain it.

Cardona "acted correctly throughout the procedure. There was no resistance", said the statement.

The Colombian striker arrived at Racing this year, after finishing his contract with Boca Juniors last December, but did not live up to expectations in the Academy and was heavily criticized by the fans. He is currently a substitute in the team coached by Fernando Gago.

In his club's last match, which they won against Atlético Tucumán (2-0) in the Professional League 2022, Cardona came on to play a few minutes in the second half.

"I believe in good footballers. He is a national team player. And everyone, everyone at some point goes through an adverse situation. I had it with injuries. A good player can always turn things around," said Gago after that match. AFP
