The Colombian footballer Edwin Cardona, Racing player, tested positive in a breathalyzer test during the early hours of Wednesday in the Puerto Madero neighborhood of Buenos Aires, according to official sources confirmed to EFE on Thursday.
The test for the former Boca Juniors midfielder showed a result of 1.81 grams of alcohol per liter of blood, a rate that is triple the limit allowed by the law of the city of Buenos Aires, which establishes a maximum of 0.5 grams per liter.
According to Traffic sources consulted by EFE, fines ranging from 22,713 pesos (150 dollars) to 151,420 pesos (1,000 dollars), or an arrest of one to ten days, as well as a driver's license suspension of four months to two years, are established from one gram of alcohol per liter of blood.
"The case cannot be suspended. In the first offense, the suspension period can be reduced by half if the road safety course is approved", these sources explained.
After testing positive in the breathalyzer test, the traffic officers confiscated both the vehicle and Cardona's driver's license, who did not resist.
The Colombian footballer, who joined Racing at the beginning of the year, is not going through a good sporting moment: his last start was on September 10 against Estudiantes and since then he has only accumulated seven minutes of play.
