Marino remembers that Fabbiani liked to eat

This incident was later forgotten and both footballers became friends, as Mariño himself implied. In 2020, he gave an interview to the newspaper 'El Bocón' and recounted an anecdote in which he remembered how the 'Ogro' couldn't stop eating.

"I remember this one that I share with several guys. The 'Ogro' is going to kill me. Fabbiani, 'Pampa' Romero, and I lived in an apartment together. The chubby Fabbiani was always a bit clingy. We went to eat at the club's restaurant and he would say 'look at how I'm eating' and only ate salad," he said.

"One day he says, 'I'm tired, I'm going to tell the coach.' This time he left quickly, we kept eating, we arrived at the apartment, Fabbiani had his own room. We tried to enter and he wouldn't open the door. We wanted to tease him but he wouldn't open... we thought he must have fallen asleep because it was 10 PM. We opened it and he was under a sheet, I approached and uncovered him, he had potato chips and a bunch of candies all over his body. We said, 'how can you make us lie.' We were killing ourselves laughing. The fat guy was a big eater, he liked to eat, he couldn't be without eating anything. He always said he didn't eat, but he would arrive at training overweight. He would go to the apartment and eat all his candies," he added.

Juan Carlos Mariño was one of the most versatile footballers of recent years. Since his appearance in 1999, the 'Burrito' showed signs of talent that ultimately led him to play in Spain, Mexico, and Argentina. It was precisely in the southern country that he left a mark, not only on the field but also on a teammate's face.

The victim was the renowned forward Cristian Fabbiani, better known as the 'Ogre'. The attacker was known for the criticism he received for his weight, although he responded on the field with goals. They both coincided in 2002 at Lanús, although at first the relationship became heated.

The story was told by Carlos 'Negro' Galván, who was part of that team and witnessed how Mariño 'knocked out' Fabbiani with just one punch, without caring that the striker was 1.98 meters tall and weighed almost 100 kilos.

"(Fabbiani) made his debut with me at Lanús. Mariño grabbed him, hit him with a punch and knocked him out. Do you know how Juanca fights? He hit him and knocked him out with just one punch. That small guy can box, you don't know," said 'Negro' on the program 'A Presión'.

"Sosa put Mariño against Racing and you don't know how he played that day. Fabbiani, you know how he is, with his ego up high and Mariño just calm, knocked him out with one punch," he added.
