Boca Juniors showed a great performance against River Plate in the new edition of the Argentine Superclásico, but there were complications for the team in the end. In one of River's attacks, Marcos Rojo tried to clear the ball and ended up hitting Nicolás de la Cruz in the head.
Only one minute remained of the seven added by referee Darío Herrera to the match, and Marcelo Gallardo's team didn't stop pressuring. The 'Xeneizes' mission was to hold on to the 1-0 at all costs, and Luis Vázquez tried to maintain possession of the ball, just on the left sideline.
Due to the limited space, the forward decided to lean on Frank Fabra, who was comfortable to clear the ball from the area. However, the Colombian decided to take a few seconds to think, and his shot was blocked, generating an aerial dispute. Nicolás de la Cruz was alert and went after the ball.
Despite his efforts, the Uruguayan couldn't make progress as he was hit in the head by Marcos Rojo's left leg. The referee of the match observed the scene and quickly showed the defender a straight red card. Concern grew in the 'Xeneize', but the play had no major relevance in the outcome of the match.
