Boca Juniors showed a great performance against River Plate, in the new edition of the Argentine Superclásico, but there were complications for the team in the end. In one of the attacks from the 'Millonarios', Marcos Rojo tried to clear the ball and ended up hitting Nicolás de la Cruz's head.
There was only one minute left of the seven added by referee Darío Herrera to the match and Marcelo Gallardo's team did not stop pressing. The mission of the 'Xeneize' was to hold on to the 1-0 at all costs and Luis Vázquez tried to maintain possession of the ball just on the left sideline.
Due to the limited space, the attacker decided to lean on Frank Fabra, who was comfortable to clear the ball out of the area. However, the Colombian decided to take a few seconds to think and his shot was blocked, generating an aerial dispute. Nicolás de la Cruz was alert and went after the ball.
Despite the effort, the Uruguayan could not progress, as he was hit in the head by Marcos Rojo's left leg. The referee of the match witnessed the scene and quickly showed the defender a straight red card. Concern grew in the 'Xeneize', but the play had no major relevance in the outcome of the match.
With this victory, Boca Juniors reaches 32 points and climbs to the fourth position in the Liga Profesional, just two points behind Atlético Tucumán, which is the current leader. On the other hand, River Plate remains in the seventh position, with 29 points, somewhat distant from the title race, although they still have options.
