About Boca Juniors
Boca Juniors has had irregular performances throughout the Professional League, and one of the weak points of the team has been the attack. In that sense, the 'Xeneize' board is looking to reinforce the sector, considering Ezequiel Zeballos' recent injury, and the list of signing options is led by Colombian Roger Martínez.
The 28-year-old forward currently plays for Club América in Mexico, and according to César Luis Merlo, the Argentine squad has already started negotiations. The source mentioned that there have been conversations to reach a deal, although there are details that could complicate the transaction.
According to the rules of the Professional League, Boca Juniors can sign a player to replace the injured Zeballos, even though the transfer market has already closed. However, the individual must meet one of the following variables: be a free footballer abroad (without a contract) or have played in the Argentine tournament.
Precisely, Martinez does not meet any of these requirements, and 'Xeneize,' in case the bond is concrete, will have to request a special permit from FIFA to enable him. That will be the only way for the Colombian, with a past at Racing Club, Santamarina, and Aldosivi, to wear the 'Azul y Oro' shirt.
It is worth mentioning that Roger is in his fifth season at Club América and, only in Liga MX, he has played 125 matches, scoring 24 goals and providing 12 assists. In the current campaign, the experienced player has only had one appearance since he was injured at the start of the Apertura.
What happened to Roger Martínez?
Roger Martínez was injured on July 2nd, when America faced Atlas in the first match of the 2022 Apertura tournament in Liga MX. The Colombian was a starter but had to be replaced at the 40th minute. He suffered an injury to the proximal tendon of the left rectus femoris and required six to eight weeks to recover.
