The group stage of the 2022 Qatar World Cup will feature many exciting matches. One of the matches that stands out on that list is the one that will involve Mexico and Argentina. Three months before that match, Gonzalo Higuain, a three-time World Cup player with the 'Albiceleste', analyzed the 'Tri'.
"Mexico is difficult. Besides, that World Cup (2010) was difficult. We started winning 2-0, then they scored the 2-1 and, later, Carlitos scored the 3-1. It's always a complicated opponent", commented the popular 'Pipita' for the Inter Miami's social networks, the MLS club he currently plays for.
Higuain, runner-up with Argentina in Brazil 2014, also issued a warning about Mexico, which is led by Argentine Gerardo Martino.
"Mexico is a great team, and in a World Cup, nothing can be taken for granted. When we played the 2014 World Cup against Bosnia, Iran, and Nigeria, we struggled in all three matches. We beat Iran in the last minute. We won 2-1 against Bosnia and 3-2 against Nigeria. All by one goal. It doesn't matter which opponent you face because the World Cup is different from everything else. Mexico is a respected opponent, just like everyone else, and surely they will want to give a great performance in the World Cup", said the forward.
On the other hand, the former player of Real Madrid, AC Milan, River Plate, Juventus, Chelsea, and Napoli acknowledged that he will experience this World Cup "differently" since he is no longer part of the team, although "I still have friends there with whom I have shared many things, and I enjoy seeing them doing well".
Likewise, Higuain highlighted Argentina's current form and sent a message to his colleagues who will attend the tournament. "The truth is that the team is in a great moment, arriving at the World Cup in a great moment. We know how difficult a World Cup is, but obviously I have friends with whom I lived nine years in the national team, and I wish them the best of achievements. The World Cup must be enjoyed, there are many players who will experience it for the first time, and it is a unique, unrepeatable experience. I hope everything goes well", he said.
