River Plate vs. Gimnasia: Pre-match
It seemed like the first half of the River Plate vs. Gimnasia match was going to end goalless. The story, however, changed and had Lucas Beltrán as the protagonist. The 'Millonario' player scored the goal that broke the tie in the ninth round of the Professional League of Argentina.
In the 44th minute, at the Monumental Stadium, defender Leonardo Morales made a poor clearance in the area after a cross and the ball reached Beltrán. The local team's forward controlled it and took the right-footed shot to beat goalkeeper Rodrigo Rey and score 1-0.
Beltrán, who is getting more opportunities after the departure of Julián Álvarez and the injury of Matías Suárez, scored his second goal in the championship against Gimnasia. The 21-year-old athlete's first victim was Vélez Sarsfield last weekend.
River Plate vs. Gimnasia: Preview
The 'Millonarios' want to recover the lost ground in the domestic championship. Last weekend, Marcelo Gallardo's team drew 2-2 against Vélez Sarsfield (the club that eliminated them from the Copa Libertadores) and extended their winless streak to three matches. So far, the 'Banda' has accumulated a total of nine points.
As expected, the 'Muñeco' Gallardo will rely on the return of Héctor Martínez to the central defense instead of Javier Pinola. The comeback of Paulo Díaz is also an option, but he has a hip problem. In any case, if the Chilean does not recover, Jonatan Maidana will take his place in that sector of the field. The newcomers are Miguel Borja and Pablo Solari, who have been called up.
