The present of Independiente de Avellaneda is not favorable, neither in sports nor in economics. During the last hours, the club was notified about the result of the lawsuit filed by Gonzalo Verón, who accused non-compliance with salaries: the 'Rojo' lost the judgment, will have to pay 4.8 million dollars and will suffer the embargo of its television rights.
The demand of the 32-year-old football player, currently and at San Martín de Perú, began in 2020, after terminating the contract with the 'Rey de Copas'. The forward had arrived at the club in early 2018, from DC United in the MLS, but only played a year and a half (one goal in 18 matches), as he was later loaned to Aldosivi.
Being without a team, in the midst of the pandemic, Gonzalo Verón started the lawsuit against Independiente, for 6.2 million dollars, claiming non-compliance with salaries and other concepts (the leaders presented an offer of 2 million dollars in compensation in 10 installments, which was rejected by the forward). The Labor Tribunal No. 2 of Avellaneda was in charge of reviewing the case and issued an initial ruling in April.
According to the authorities, the 'Rojo' had to pay 4.8 million dollars to the player (4 million dollars in capital and 800 thousand dollars for interest and costs). At that time, the Argentine sports entity used the property it owns in Quilmes as collateral, but the valuation of the facility was lower than the amortization.
Immediately, Gonzalo Verón requested the embargo of the television rights of Independiente's matches in order to be compensated. Finally, on July 15th, the judge leading the investigation approved the request and the Avellaneda institution will not receive income from its matches until the payment to the athlete is completed.

Gonzalo Verón has been a regular starter at San Martín since his arrival for the 2022 season. Between the Apertura and Clausura tournaments, the forward played 16 matches with the 'Santos', in which he managed to score two goals and provide three assists.
