River Plate was eliminated from the Copa Libertadores by Vélez Sarsfield after a goalless draw, and thus, the aggregate result favored 'Fortín' who won in the first leg (1-0). However, a controversial play in the second leg left the players and fans of 'Millonario' upset.

At 79', Barco projected himself down the left side and crossed the ball. On the other side, Matías Suárez managed to beat a defender and scored the 1-0 goal that unleashed the joy in the Monumental Stadium, as that goal forced penalties.

The atmosphere was festive for the fans of Marcelo Gallardo's team. However, after a few minutes, Roberto Tobar received the VAR call due to a supposed handball by a River Plate player in the area.

Then, the Chilean referee went to the screen and carefully reviewed the play. After a thorough review, the main referee decided to annul the goal, as he considered that the ball hit Matías Suárez's arm before entering Vélez Sarsfield's goal.

Later, River pushed forward in search of that long-awaited goal, however, 'Fortín' closed their defensive zone until the final whistle. Although, the match ended with a scuffle as Gallardo's players claimed a penalty in their favor.
