No more. Eduardo Salvio ends contract with Boca Juniors on Thursday, June 30. Nevertheless, the forward is part of the delegation that traveled to Brazil to face Corinthians in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. In Sao Paulo, the farewell of the player who has everything agreed to join Pumas UNAM must take place.
In fact, without an official announcement, the coach of the Liga MX club already talks about the incorporation of 'Toto' Salvio. Andrés Lillini, of Argentine nationality like the current number 10 of the 'Xeneizes', revealed one of the reasons why he contacted the winger to offer him a place in the 'Auriazules' squad.
"I bring him because I need experience. We are many kids, I gave a lot of importance to the youth teams, we debuted 14 in two years, and then I need that support, that experience, someone who has experience like 'Toto'", Lillini assured Olé, who confessed that he called the forward on more than one occasion.
"Specifically on the field, someone who can provide me with assists from the right and left because the forwards, Del Prete and Dinenno, need a lot of balls thrown into the area because they are goal scorers," the UNAM coach further explained about the player who will sign with an eye on the 2022-2023 Liga MX season.
The interest shown by Lillini ended up convincing Salvio, who had other offers from Mexico and Major League Soccer. The duration of the Argentine striker's contract is unknown, but at 31 years old, he will embark on another challenge outside his country after stints at Atlético de Madrid and Benfica.
Salvio, who arrived at Boca in 2019, played a total of 70 official matches with the blue and gold jersey in all competitions. The 'Toto' scored 19 goals and lifted four trophies: Superliga Argentina, Copa Argentina, and two Copa de la Liga titles.
Once the incorporation is finalized, the forward will join Gustavo del Prete (Estudiantes de La Plata), César Huerta (Pumas), Adrián Aldrete (Cruz Azul), and Gil Alcalá (Tijuana) as the reinforcements of the university team. Meanwhile, Alan Mozo (Chivas), Alfredo Talavera (Juárez), Sebastián Saucedo (Toluca), and Rogéiro (unattached) are the ones who have left.
