Vélez Sarsfield has announced that soccer players Miguel Brizuela and Thiago Almada have been reinstated to the professional squad one week after being sidelined due to being accused of sexual abuse.
According to the statement from Vélez, "substantial modifications have been made due to the addition of new evidence, expert testimonies, and testimonies" in the investigation.
"Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield announces that, due to substantial modifications resulting from the addition of new evidence, expert testimonies, and testimonies within the framework of the preparatory criminal investigation conducted by the Specialized Gender Violence Functional Unit of the San Isidro Judicial Department, the soccer players Thiago Almada and Miguel Brizuela have been reinstated to the professional squad and are now available to the Coaching Staff, effective today. Without prejudice to the measure taken, the ongoing judicial investigation will continue to be monitored."
A week ago, the temporary suspension of the players was announced as follows:
"Due to the formal charges notified by the Specialized Gender Violence Functional Investigation Unit of the San Isidro Judicial Department against players Miguel Brizuela and Thiago Almada, the Club has activated the institutional action protocol. Both professionals have been temporarily separated from the first team until their legal situations are resolved. The players will have the support of the Institution's Psychology Department. The Club is available to the victim and the justice system," states the press release issued by the institution.
In the early hours of December 4th, a party was held at a house rented by Martín Lucero. After the celebration, a 28-year-old woman accused them of sexually abusing her in one of the rooms of the house.
