Armani dreams of retiring at Atlético Nacional

"I have that thought of being able to retire at Nacional. Obviously, I can't say that now because life takes many turns, football takes many turns, that's the reality (...), but that's the idea," said the Argentine in a conversation with a Colombian fan on "Instagram Live".

Armani played for Atlético Nacional between 2010 and 2017, during which he won 13 titles with the 'Verdolaga' club, including the Copa Libertadores in 2016.

In January 2018, when he signed for River Plate, he was bid farewell with a heartfelt tribute, chants, and tears from more than 30,000 fans.

"I can't give false hope to the fans and I know that since that moment the fans are waiting for me to return because of the words I said," stated Armani, who said that he will do his best to fulfill his promise of retiring at the Colombian club.

However, he is aware that in order to return to Atlético Nacional, he must "be at a very high level".

"I want to keep winning things. I know how demanding the fans are and I must be at the level that meets their expectations," he asserted.

His good performances in Colombia opened the doors for him to join River Plate, the club he joined two years ago, and the Argentina national team, where he has been a starting player since the 2018 World Cup and has not lost his place since then.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper stated that he is happy at River Plate.

"At the moment, I am happy at River. First, because of the people, because I also have to appreciate and say that since the first day I arrived at River, they received me spectacularly, and secondly, because I am very happy and proud to have the group that I have at River," he said.

"I am not in a hurry to leave River (...) At the moment, I am focused on the two remaining years of my contract with River, I am focused on fulfilling them," he added.

However, Armani acknowledged that "the idea for the future" is to "go live in Medellín", where his wife, Daniela Rendón, is from.

At Atlético Nacional, in addition to the Copa Libertadores, Armani won the Recopa Sudamericana in 2017, six league titles, three Copa Colombia, and two super cups, which solidified his status as an idol of the verdolaga club.
