The Colombian midfielder Sebastián Pérez, who was on loan at Barcelona until June, left the Ecuadorian club on Wednesday due to a "salary non-compliance" and will return to Boca Juniors to train.
"Sebastián Pérez, Boca player who was on loan until June at Barcelona of Ecuador, due to the salary non-compliance of the Ecuadorian club, obtained permission to return to Boca and train with the first team," the club reported.
It added that the return of the 26-year-old midfielder has the approval of coach Miguel Ángel Russo.
However, the champion of the 2016 Libertadores Cup with Atlético Nacional will not be able to play for Boca Juniors until June of this year.
"In this way, the player will be able to maintain optimal physical and football conditions to fight for his best sporting future starting in June, and Boca also safeguards its interests with a player of its own who has a contract with the club until 2021," the club explained.
Pérez arrived at Boca Juniors in mid-2016 but failed to establish himself as a starter.
In mid-2018, he was loaned to Pachuca and in January 2019 to Barcelona.
He played for Colombia in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and the 2016 Copa America Centenario in the United States.
With three rounds remaining in the Argentine Superliga, Boca Juniors is second with 39 points, three behind the leader River Plate.
