Peru's Universitario and Venezuela's Carabobo will face each other in a rematch match of the first phase of the Libertadores. The winner will face Cerro Porteño.

Peruvian Universitario de Deportes and Venezuelan Carabobo will define the qualification to phase 2 of the Copa Libertadores this Tuesday at the Monumental Stadium in Lima, the venue for the tournament's first single-leg final, won by Flamengo with a 2-1 victory over River Plate last November.

The team led by Uruguayan Gregorio Elso Pérez will take the field with the conviction of securing the pass, after a 1-1 draw in the first leg match played last week in the Venezuelan city of Puerto Ordaz.

Despite having the support of more than 40,000 fans at the Monumental, Pérez emphasized that the match will not be "easy" and his players will have to approach it "with a lot of caution".

"We will carry out our proposal to qualify, without giving up what we have been preaching," he stressed.

In turn, Uruguayan forward Jonathan Dos Santos, scorer of the equalizing goal in the first leg clash, said that they will seek victory from the first minute of the game in Lima, as the team has the obligation to qualify at home.

During the match, U will suffer the absence of midfielder Rafael Guarderas, who suffered an injury in the first leg match, and will likely be replaced by Jesús Barco.

Carabobo, on the other hand, relies on delivering a blow at the Monumental, mainly based on the excellent performance of goalkeeper Ángel Hernández, a wall in the first leg match, and the danger posed by midfielder Edson Tortolero, the scorer for his team.

Their coach, Antonio Franco, stated that the first match left him with a "positive balance" due to the performance of his players, although he admitted to being "disappointed" for not achieving the victory.

"The team showed a good face against a great opponent with a lot of experience and trajectory. We will go with the hope of taking advantage of our opportunities," he emphasized.

The winner of this Libertadores tie will play against Cerro Porteño in phase 2.
