Libertad did not fail at the Dr. Nicolás Leoz stadium and defeated General Díaz 3-1 in a match corresponding to the 18th round of the 2019 Clausura tournament.
Iván Franco, Antonio Bareiro, and Édgar Benítez scored the goals for the gumarelo team, which with this result remains close to the leader Olimpia.
THE MATCH.
Gumarelo struggled in the first half against an organized General Díaz team that presented an uncomfortable match for José Chamot's team.
The score was opened at 34 minutes in favor of the home team, when Iván Franco found himself with a ball in the small area after a rebound by the opposing goalkeeper Miguel Martínez and pushed it to score the 1-0.
Minutes later, a great controversy arose in the game. Referee Juan Gabriel Benítez awarded a penalty in favor of Águilas for a foul by Alexander Mejía, which actually occurred outside of the area and not inside, as could be seen in the television replays.
All of Libertad protested, but the main referee remained firm in his decision, and Pablo Meza converted the penalty into a goal, tying the match 1-1 at halftime.
In the second half, General Díaz came out strong and had three clear chances to score, but failed to convert and ended up paying a high price.
Libertad did not forgive and at 75' and 77' they sealed the deal with goals, first by Antonio Bareiro and then by Édgar Benítez, for the final score of 3-1.
A great victory for Gumarelo to stay in the fight for the Clausura tournament title.
With this result, Repollero is positioned with 37 points in the standings, while General Díaz remains with 18 points. The next match for José Chamot's team will be away against River Plate, while General Díaz will face Sol de América in Villa Elisa.
