Alejandro Domínguez
President of Conmebol, thanked President Martín Vizcarra at a press conference on Tuesday for providing the guarantee for the relocation of the Copa Libertadores 2019 final to Lima.
"I want to thank President Vizcarra's government, which provided all the guarantees for the match on November 23 to be played in Lima, Peru," said Alejandro Domínguez, not without lamenting that the final will not be played in Santiago as initially planned.
On the other hand, Conmebol explained in a statement that the decision was agreed upon with the presidents of Flamengo and River, as well as the associations of Argentina, Brazil, and Chile. They also based the decision on the policy of holding each of the unique finals in different countries.
"Conmebol greatly appreciates the collaboration from the Chilean government for the proper organization of the 2019 Libertadores Final. We wish peace and goodwill to the Chilean people and their authorities," the statement concludes.
Important note
Lima was initially chosen as the venue for this year's Sudamericana final, but it was eventually moved to Asunción on this Saturday due to organizational issues. EFE
