Diego Maradona was announced as the new coach of Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, which will become the third Argentine team directed by the popular Pelusa.
The institution confirmed the appointment of the legendary former referent of the Argentine national team as the replacement for Darío Ortiz, who resigned as the Lobo's coach after the team's last defeat to Argentinos Juniors in the Superliga.

Gimnasia is currently last in the Argentine tournament with only one unit and is at risk of relegation.
Diego Maradona takes on the challenge of saving Tripero at the age of 58, after resigning in June as coach of Dorados de Sinaloa, from the Mexican second division, to undergo surgery.
The remembered former footballer will return to manage in Argentine football after 24 years, following his tenure at Deportivo Mandiyú (1994) and Racing Club (1995). In addition to leading Dorados, he was also the coach of the Albiceleste between 2008 and 2010. In the United Arab Emirates, he led Al Wasl and Al Fujairah.
