Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata from the Argentinian First Division, where Paraguayans Víctor Ayala and Pablo Velázquez play, tried to hire Diego Maradona as their new head coach.

But this Monday afternoon it became known that the Argentine former footballer thanked for the formal interest but ultimately rejected the proposal from El Lobo.

"Maradona thanked for the interest and ruled out the possibility because he is not in physical condition to currently lead," said sources close to him, as reported by media outlets from the neighboring country.

Maradona is currently recovering from his left knee surgery and has not yet been medically cleared to coach. His last team was Dorados de Sinaloa from Mexico.

Therefore, Gimnasia continues the search for a new coach after the departure of Hernán Darío Ortiz. Eduardo Domínguez and Omar Osvaldo De Felippe are two of the candidates.
