Argentina's Boca Juniors triumphs in San Luis
With less than a month left until the World Cup and two weeks after clinching their second consecutive Argentinian football championship, Boca Juniors closed out the semester in the best way possible. They defeated the San Luis team 3-0, thanks to an outstanding performance by their substitutes and, even more impressively, their young players.
Guillermo Barros Schelotto fielded four youngsters in the starting lineup who performed very well, along with those who came on in the second half and made their contributions.
Agustín Heredia, Julián Chicco, Gonzalo Maroni, and Agustín Almendra were the starters in San Luis and showed some very interesting things, especially the two midfielders. The former Instituto player created the play that led to the first goal and shone when he combined with Emanuel Reynoso, who also had a good game. But the best moments mostly came from the left-footed midfielder: two assists for the goals by the always reliable Walter Bou (the second goal) and Guido Vadalá (the third goal), as well as a tremendous shot that hit the crossbar and a one-two pass with Wanchope Ábila that could have resulted in the fourth goal. These were some of the highlights left by this 18-year-old youngster who wants to establish himself in the first team.
In addition to them, Gonzalo Lamardo and Vadalá also performed well: the forward made a contribution to the scoreline to close out a season in which he was once again considered, while the player from Lincoln came on, hit the post with a shot, and positions himself as a possible alternative for the next semester, in which the team will compete in the Copa Libertadores, Copa Argentina, and Superliga.
The squad will go on leave until June 25, the date on which they will return to training for pre-season and the start of the next season, which promises to be filled with activity.
