While Estudiantes is playing against Rosario Central in the Gigante de Arroyito, Colón will be visiting Racing at the same time in what could be Eduardo Domínguez's last game as the Sabalero's coach. Although the former defender has not spoken publicly, those close to him assure that he will step aside due to some differences with the club's football project.
The officials in charge of professional football have already set their sights on the current coach of Sabalero and, as of today, he is among the top names to replace Lucas Bernardi. However, as reported by this media outlet, Estudiantes does not want to rush into making a decision and the choice of the new coach will not be imminent. The match against Nacional de Uruguay for the Copa Libertadores will be led by Leandro Benítez.
In Santa Fe, it is almost certain that Domínguez will leave after tonight's match against Racing. On Friday morning, the president of Colón, Jorge Vignatti, met with the coach and the outcome of the meeting was not the best. After a series of complaints and reproaches about the team's poor performance, the coach allegedly expressed that he will manage the team for the last time against Racing.
In addition to Estudiantes, Emelec from Ecuador is another club interested in hiring him as a coach. The team from Guayaquil, aware of his situation in Colón, will try to seduce him in the coming days.
EDUARDO DOMÍNGUEZ'S NUMBERS AS A COACH
Eduardo Domínguez hung up his boots in August 2015 wearing the Huracán shirt and a few days later, he took over as the team's coach. He led his former teammates for 52 matches (he resigned in September 2016) and obtained 48.71% of the points.
The highlight of his time at Globo was undoubtedly the 2015 Copa Sudamericana. In that international competition, he reached the final after defeating the reigning American champion River in the semifinals, but he was unable to lift the trophy as he lost on penalties to Independiente Santa Fe after drawing 0-0 in both matches, both in Argentina and Colombia.
In January 2017, Domínguez moved to Santa Fe to take charge of Colón and in his first semester, he had a great campaign that allowed him to qualify for the current Copa Sudamericana (he is in the round of 16). In the current Superliga, he had a good start but then became inconsistent and started dropping positions in the table.
Looking at his numbers so far coaching Sabalero, he has led 47 matches in total and obtained 56.81% of the points.
PELLEGRINO REMAINS ON THE LIST
Although he is of interest, Domínguez is not the only candidate to be Estudiantes' next coach. Another name is Mauricio Pellegrino, who is currently unemployed.
In the coming days, there could be a meeting with the coach from Cordoba, who is looking to continue his career overseas but does not close the door on Pincha.
