Julio Comesaña, coach of Atlético Junior, stated after the goalless draw against Alianza Petrolera that the team "played in a hurry" against a team that played according to its own convenience, to gain a valuable point and make things difficult for them.
"We don't have a luxury team, we have experienced players and today we put a group that had been playing. I'm not upset with the team's effort, but we took the wrong approach, this Alianza team plays very close together. They played with vigor, they were very excited and we played in a hurry," he expressed.
Junior finished the league day with 27 points, on the edge of the top eight in the standings. A misstep in the last two matches could complicate Barranquilla's team qualification for the next phase.
"If Junior had played all the matches with the aggression of tonight, they would already be qualified. The problem is not what Alianza does, but that we didn't convert," said the Uruguayan coach.
Regarding the team he set up to face Alianza, the Uruguayan said, "I believed it was the best team to play this match, we were not qualified and we wanted to reach the Boca game calmly."
Junior will have to turn the page and think about the next match on Wednesday, at 7:45 PM, at the Metropolitano stadium against Boca Juniors, for the fifth round of the Conmebol Libertadores, where a victory definitively puts them in the round of 16.
