Flamengo vs River Plate: A thrilling draw in the Copa Libertadores
Just when Flamengo was starting to enjoy the victory (there were only a few minutes left in the game), Camilo Mayada (87') appeared to deny them that joy. And in doing so, he prevented River Plate from losing in the opening match of Group 4 of the Copa Libertadores 2018 at the Nilton Santos Stadium.
River Plate put aside their deep crisis and achieved a valuable 2-2 draw thanks to the goals from Rodrigo Mora and Camilo Mayada against Flamengo, who took the lead twice but failed to manage the result in the beginning of Group 4.
The match was played behind closed doors at the Olympic Stadium Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro, and had a sad first half, mirroring the atmosphere in the stands.
In a chaotic second half, Henrique Dourado scored for 'Mengo' with a penalty in the 54th minute, but Mora equalized with a header just one minute later. Everton once again gave the lead to the home team in the 66th minute, but Mayada, who had entered the game shortly before, leveled the score in the 87th minute.
The Brazilians were always content while they were leading, unlike the Argentinians, who never gave up and neutralized all the blows from their opponents.
