River Plate wins the Argentine Cup for the second consecutive time

With goals from Ignacio Scocco and Ignacio Fernández, River Plate defeated Atlético Tucumán 2-1 and was crowned champion of the Argentine Cup for the second consecutive occasion.

Scocco scored at nine minutes and Fernández at 47 in the match held at the Malvinas Argentinas Stadium in Mendoza, which was full of fans from both teams. Luis Rodríguez scored the goal for Atlético at 11.

Marcelo Gallardo's team was more efficient than its rival in the penalty areas, where matches are decided. They also started the match with a greater offensive vocation, which led them to score the first goal.

Enzo Pérez headed the ball into the heart of the area and Scocco converted with a header. But in the next play, Atlético equalized with a deep attack, a low cross from Guillermo Acosta and a touch from Luis Rodríguez in the small area.

River maintained its dominance, but Atlético was more incisive in certain plays, such as Rodríguez's errant header at 36 minutes.

The "millonarios" regained the lead with the goal from midfielder Fernández, who shot with a left curve. Jonatan Maidana from River hit the post at 68 minutes.

In the final minutes, River controlled the game to unleash the celebration with the final whistle.

Atlético is the runner-up, in a year when they played the Copa Libertadores for the first time. As a finalist, they will also play in 2018.

"We knew the importance it had," said Pérez. "Congratulations to Atlético. The team played a good game... Thank you to the people who trusted me... The wound of not being able to reach the final of the Copa Libertadores is healed."

Lanús eliminated River from the continental tournament.
