Estudiantes, Racing and Banfield qualify for the 2018 Copa Libertadores

Students, Racing, and Banfield classified this Tuesday for the 2018 Copa Libertadores in Argentina's first division championship. Boca Juniors was crowned champion.

The tournament awarded five direct spots to next year's Libertadores, which were taken by the top five teams in the standings, in the following order: Boca, River Plate, Estudiantes, Racing, and Banfield.

The 'Genius' from Rio? Trauco dared to speak Portuguese, played the tambourine, and ate Brazilian appetizer.

Boca and River had already secured their spots, and on Tuesday, Estudiantes joined them with a hard-fought victory over the relegated Quilmes, which they were only able to defeat in the last minutes with a goal from Lucas Viatri(79).

Independiente needed to win at home against Lanus in order to qualify, but they had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Emiliano Rigoni (36) scored for Independiente, while Nicolas Aguirre (59) equalized for Lanus.

San Lorenzo was in the same situation as Independiente. They faced a tougher challenge as visitors against Talleres and also failed to secure a victory, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

In Rosario, Godoy Cruz celebrated at the expense of Newell's, defeating them 2-0 with goals from Uruguayan Santiago 'Morro' Garcia (50) and Javier Correa (58).

These results also determined the six teams that will participate in the 2018 Copa Sudamericana: Independiente, San Lorenzo, Lanus, Newell's Old Boys, Defensa y Justicia, and Colon de Santa Fe.

In terms of relegation, the four teams that were demoted to the second division were Atletico de Rafaela, Sarmiento de Junin, Quilmes, and Aldosivi de Mar del Plata.
