65’: GOAL? Musiala scores yet another one, but will it count??
64’: Substitions! Sacha Boey and Mathys Tel come on to replace Leroy Sané and Raphaël Guerreiro
61’: Sané’s hesitation in the box really needs to be studied on a psychological level, the goals that man could score if he just kicked the ball...
55’: Sané misses a free kick, his performance tonight (or rather, lack thereof) needs to be studied.
48’: What’s Müller attempting to clear the ball on the goal line? Jack of all trades, if we’ve ever seen one.
45’: Second half begins!
Champions League Halftime Scores
- Bayer Leverkusen 1-1 Inter Milan
- RB Leipzig 1-1 Aston Villa
- Real Madrid 1-0 Atalanta
- Sporting CP 1-1 Club Brugge
- PSG 1-0 RB Salzburg
- PSV Eindhoven 0-0 Brest
- Celtic 0-0 Dinamo Zagreb (final)
- Liverpool 1-0 Girona (final)
Halftime observations
- The game started off horribly for Bayern Munich, but they did well to recover from the initial shock and push to equalize.
- Considering the amount of chances Bayern fumbled in Shakhtar Donetsk’s box, they should have scored way more than just two goals. The offense simply wasn’t it this half.
- Thomas Müller may not be the best candidate to replace a striker like Harry Kane, but with that beautifully set up goal (what a play from both Sané and Musiala), he may just be alright.
45’: Halftime, and Bayern Munich goes into the locker rooms with a redeeming goal from Thomas Müller.
45’: GOOOOOOOOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!! Müller nets the ball into the back of the net, finally! The almost silly amount of chances attempted finally paid off.
32’: An abundance of chances attempted by Bayern, yet somehow nothing’s going in. Statistically, it has to at some point, right?
21’: Nobody has scored in the last 10 minutes. Soccer is so boring. Where’s the butler with my fresh beverage?
11’: TOR!!! Tied 1-1. Konrad Laimer cleans up a loose ball in the box and shelves it. Packmas!!!
7’: Yellow Card. Leroy Sané booked for an ugly challenge.
5’: Goal, Shakhtar 1-0! Kevin beats Kim Min-jae 1v1 and buries it in the far post.
5’: Shakhtar hasn’t been given a red card yet, so it’s already going better than last time for the underdog.
1’: CCCHHHAAAMMMPPPIIIOOONNNSSS!!!
Thomas Müller was rumored to miss this match but instead he will start. Leon Goretzka will get the nod over Aleksandar Pavlović at the number eight position, while Konrad Laimer and Raphaël Guerreiro will man the outside-back spots. Leroy Sané and Michael Olise will feature together again on the wings.

So gehen wir ins Spiel gegen Donetsk! #SHAFCB #packmas #UCL pic.twitter.com/D1uaoHI2sT
The last time Bayern Munich and Shakhtar Donetsk played each other in the 2014/15 Champions League, Thomas Müller scored a braced and Bayern won 7-0. With an injury-ravaged squad, Bayern will rely on its incredible depth to get the job done.
Odds: Bayern (-699), Draw (+650), Shakhtar (+1800), Over/Under 3.5
Prediction: Bayern wins 3-1. Jamal Musiala dribbles through the entire defense in the 15th minute, flicks the ball up and heads it in. Right before halftime, Shakhtar equalizes on their only shot of the match. On a corner kick in the 63rd minute, Dayot Upamecano’s header is blocked but Aleksandar Pavlović pokes it in. In stoppage time, Shakhtar gets caught pressing high and Joshua Kimmich puts a ball over the top to Arijon Ibrahimović, who dribbles around the keeper.
It’s Bayern time.
