The former coach of the club acknowledged that they had the Ecuadorian in their plans.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former coach of Manchester United, spoke in an interview about what his time at the club meant, what he's doing now, and revealed that he had plans for the current Chelsea midfielder, the Ecuadorian Moises Caicedo.

“Before, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo were the best young players and we signed them. Now, United can't go and buy Evan Ferguson (Brighton forward). We couldn't buy the players that I mentioned to the club," he said in an interview with The Athletic.

He explained which players he suggested: "Erling Haaland, before his debut with Salzburg. Declan Rice, who wouldn't have cost as much as he did last summer. We talked about Moises Caicedo, but we felt we needed players ready for that moment."

Solskjaer also admitted Brighton's good work: "Brighton is good at allowing foreign players to come and find their place for a year and a half. At United, you don't have that luxury and it cost the team many players."

Solskjaer was at Manchester United between 2018 and 2021. Caicedo made his debut with Independiente in 2019 and was transferred to Brighton in 2020; at that time, it was reported that United couldn't reach an agreement with the Ecuadorian club.
