Italian police car set on fire after violent acts by Eintracht Frankfurt fans
Hours before the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 between Napoli and Eintracht Frankfurt, clashes between fans of the German club and Italian police were reported.
Hundreds of German fans, hooded and dressed in black, threw objects and flares at the police, who responded with the use of tear gas, according to images broadcasted by the Italian media, in which a police car on fire could also be seen.
These acts of violence, concentrated in a square in the city's historic center, are occurring within the framework of the local authorities' ban on visiting fans having tickets for this match, due to fears of disturbances.
Despite this, at least 600 German fans traveled to Naples without a ticket, according to the press.
Eintracht and its fans have been under close surveillance by UEFA since last season after the invasion of the playing field and the use of pyrotechnic material in its Waldstadion, following their team's qualification for the final of the Europa League, after eliminating the English West Ham in the semifinals.
During the trip to Marseille (France) in September in the Champions League, there were incidents between fans of Marseille and Eintracht, with flares being thrown between stands. An Eintracht fan was seriously injured and there were German fans who made Nazi salutes.
