Mundial Club: Winning Peruvians
André Carrillo is one game away from winning the Club World Cup with Al Hilal. After defeating Flamengo in a convincing manner and playing in an unprecedented position (central midfielder), the popular 'Culébra' could become the fourth Peruvian player to lift the trophy.
Al Hilal will play the Club World Cup final this Saturday, February 11th at 14:00 hours in Morocco against Real Madrid, who reached this stage after defeating the Egyptian team Al Ahly 4-1.
André Carrillo eliminated Flamengo with a score of 3-2. The 'Culebra' had a great game playing as a central midfielder, neutralizing every player who passed through his zone.
The World Club Cup, previously known as the Intercontinental Cup, has been played since 2005. The following year, a Peruvian already had the trophy in his hands. It was Martín Hidalgo, who made history with Internacional de Porto Alegre. The Peruvian fullback missed the final against Barcelona after being injured in the semi-final match against Al Ahly, precisely the team that defeated Real Madrid in 2023.
In 2012, another Peruvian lifted the Club World Cup trophy. It was Paolo Guerrero with Corinthians, who defeated Chelsea with his goal.

To continue the streak of Peruvians, in 2013 Claudio Pizarro made history with Bayern Munich by defeating Raja Casablanca 2-0. Although the 'Bombardero' did not play, he was a key piece in reaching the Club World Cup after competing in the Champions League.
