The Qatar 2022 World Cup is 17 days away from starting and the Germany national team has received bad news: Timo Werner will not be able to attend the tournament. The RB Leipzig forward suffered a serious ankle injury and, after the necessary medical examinations, it was known that he will not return to the field for the rest of the year.

The 26-year-old striker had returned to play in the Bundesliga and was rediscovering his best football form. Precisely, the attacker was a starter in the visit to Shakhtar in the last match of the Champions League group stage, where the 'Red Bulls' were looking to secure their place in the round of 16.

Timo Werner was very active during the match and even provided the assist for Christopher Nkunku's opening goal (10'), but he couldn't complete the game. Just 18 minutes into the match, the alarms went off: the forward couldn't continue due to an ankle discomfort after receiving a tackle from Taras Stepanenko.

Hours later, the player underwent the necessary examinations and the results were the worst: a tear in the syndesmosis ligament of the left ankle was detected. According to RB Leipzig's statement, the talented athlete will not return to the field, at least, for the remainder of the year.

The news has been a hard blow for Germany national team coach Hansi Flick, as he counted on Timo Werner in his starting lineup for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Remember that in the qualifiers, the forward scored five goals in eight matches, while he found the back of the net twice in six games in the UEFA Nations League.
